Rubik's Cube facts videos and puzzle solver.

I don't think there's anyone in the world who has not held a Rubik's cube in there hand and have been amazed an confused at this ingenious game which has confused and baffled me and many people for years trying to complete this clever little game.. The only way we could complete this was to take the stickers off or take all the pieces apart and rearrange them which would still amaze friends , (providing they never saw you)... The Rubik's Cube still amazes me today many years later and is such an ingenious idea and a game that will last, and confuse us for centuries.

Rubik's Cube is a mechanical puzzle invented in 1974 by the Hungarian sculptor and professor of architecture Erno Rubik. Originally called the "Magic Cube" by its inventor, this puzzle was renamed "Rubik's Cube" by Ideal Toys in 1980 and also won the 1980 German "Game of the Year" (Spiel des Jahres) special award for Best Puzzle. It is said to be the world's best-selling toy, with some 300,000,000 Rubik's Cubes and imitations sold worldwide.Erno Rubik

He was born in Budapest, Hungary during World War II. His father was a flight engineer at the Esztergom airplane factory, his mother a poet. He graduated from the Technical University, Budapest (Muszaki Egyetem) in 1967 as an architectural engineer and began postgraduate studies in sculpting and interior architecture. From 1971 to 1975 he worked as an architect, then went back to academia and became professor at the Budapest College of Applied Arts (Iparmuveszeti Foiskola). He has spent all his life in Hungary.

In the early 1980s, he became editor of a game and puzzle journal called ...Es Jatek "and games", then became self-employed in 1983, founding the Rubik Studio, where he designed furniture and games. In 1987 he became professor with full tenure; in 1990 he became the president of the Hungarian Engineering Academy (Magyar Mernoki Akademia). At the Academy, he created the International Rubik Foundation to support especially talented young engineers and industrial designers. Presently he is mainly working on video game development and architectural topics and is still leading the Rubik Studios. He is known to be a very introverted and hardly accessible person, almost impossible to contact or get for autographs. He also refuses to attend speedcubing events.

A Rubik's Cube has nine square facelets on each side, giving fifty-four facelets in total, and occupies a volume of twenty-seven unit cubes. Typically, the faces of the cube are covered by nine stickers in six solid colours; there is one colour for each side of the cube. When the puzzle is solved, each face of the cube is a solid colour. The cube celebrated its twenty-fifth anniversary in 2005, when a special edition cube in a presentation box was released, featuring a sticker in the centre of the reflective face (which replaced the white face) with a "Rubik's Cube 1980-2005" logo.

The puzzle comes in four widely available versions: the 2×2×2 ("Pocket Cube"), the 3×3×3 standard cube, the 4×4×4 ("Rubik's Revenge"), and the 5×5×5 ("Professor's Cube").
